Location & Directions
St John’s is located in the heart of White Rock at the corner of George and Russell Street. There is easy access to transit through the Metro Transport Bus. The Bus stop is within short walking from the Church on 152nd street. We do have a parking lot at church. Street parking is easily available on Sunday mornings. Next to the KNV building on Russell Street is another parking lot which we are allowed to utilize on Sundays.
Sunday Worship Services
We gather at 10:30 on Sunday mornings for worship. Worship is central to the life of the church where we spend quality time with God and with each other. We can and should worship God in our day to day lives as individuals but there is something special about coming together with sisters and brothers in Christ.
Every first, third and fifth Sundays, we do have a combined Worship Service and we follow a traditional format but with our Praise and Worship music focussed on a very subtle contemporary style using the piano, drums and guitars to lead us. Our second and fourth Sundays morning worship services is on the more traditional side with use of an organ. We have a high quality music ministry to lead the congregation in singing and to provide a variety of special music.
Every second and fourth Sundays of the month, we do offer a Service in the Afrikaans language at 9 am. When these Sundays fall on a long weekend, there is no Afrikaans Service.
The service follows the format of the Lord’s prayer, gathering for worship, hearing God’s Word to us, responding to the Word and being sent back out into the world to live as light and salt on God’s earth.
Sacraments
We have two sacraments in the Presbyterian Church: Baptism and Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper. We don’t have set times for Baptisms – they happen when needed – but we celebrate together the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of March, June, October and December. We also do celebrate the Lord’s supper on Good Friday.
Dress Code
There is no dress code at St John’s Presbyterian Church. You will find suits and dresses to jeans, shorts and golf shirts. The service is usually about an hour long.
Fellowship after our Worship Service
Following the service everyone is welcome to have a cup of coffee or tea in the centre Hall as we continue to share time together with one another and our Lutheran brothers and sisters who is using our North Hall for their own services.
What We Believe
We are a community of believers who celebrate the love of the triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in our lives. We worship, we pray, we care for each other, we grow in Christ and we share God’s love.
